Registration and Call for Papers Announced for Innovyze European User Conference 2012

Registration and Call for Papers Announced for Innovyze European User Conference 2012 Key Industry Event for European Modeling Professionals Confirmed for September 19-20, 2012.More information and registration at www.watermodeling.com Broomfield, Colorado USA, May 22, 2012 — Innovyze, a leading global innovator of wet infrastructure modeling and simulation software and technologies, today announced the opening of registration and call for papers for the Innovyze European User Conference 2012. The premier event for the digital utility and smart water modeling community will be held September 19-20, 2012, at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham, United Kingdom. This once-a-year learning opportunity for Innovyze’s European users will feature powerful technical presentations showcasing projects from throughout the region, along with keynote addresses from industry leaders and captains of the smart water modeling industry. Sponsorship packages are available and committed sponsors already include Applied Computing, Clear Environmental Consultants, EnginSoft UK, Hydro International, Onsite, Primayer, and Richard Allitt Associates. This year’s conference consists of three overlapping tracks, with Drainage and Flooding across both days of the conference, and Water Supply and Asset Management each with a dedicated day. All delegates, regardless of track, are invited to attend the conference dinner, a key networking opportunity held at the end of the first day of the event. More details on the agenda are available at www.watermodeling.com.The interactive forum will provide valuable industry insights and an opportunity to exchange cutting-edge information, thought-leadership skills, proven strategies, cost-effective solutions and best practices with water and wastewater industry movers and shakers. It will also allow water and wastewater professionals to explore new ways of using engineering-GIS technology as well as advanced analytics and smart water modeling, asset management and information management applications. Participants will learn how they can leverage these tools to do their jobs better, easier, faster and more efficiently; maximize their return on software investments; and make their organizations more globally competitive.Andrew Brown, Innovyze Director of International Operations, noted, “The conference is a fantastic opportunity for Innovyze software users from the region to gather together. Attendees will learn about new product features, get ‘tips and tricks’ for optimum software use, and hear about practical applications of Innovyze products from other users.”To complement the presenters and speakers already confirmed, the organizing committee is seeking relevant presentations. Interested speakers can visit http://www.watermodeling.com/ for submission details. Topics for consideration include:Drainage and FloodingFlood & Water Management ActSurface water management plans (SWMPs)The Water Framework DirectiveThe short and long term needs in the drainage and flooding sectorThe challenges for urban drainage practitioners in AMP5Public sector responsibility of implementing and delivering SWMPsFlooding and unauthorized intermittent discharges (UIDs)Catchment growth, changing weather patterns and emerging legislationIntegrated solutions including integrated catchment management and water cycle planningPopulation growth, planning and developmentWater SupplyReducing a network’s carbon footprintUsing transient analysis for optimum system design and protectionDeveloping, calibrating and validating water quality modelsEfficiently operating and managing water distribution systemsOptimizing capital improvement programsUsing network modeling for regulatory compliancePressure and leakage managementAsset ManagementCapital PlanningOperational PlanningTransfer of Work Orders to ContractorsFloods and Water Management Act – Asset mapping and maintenance.Data ManagementReporting and Annual Data Submission“This unique event gives our European users an exceptional forum for exploring the state of the art in smart water and wastewater infrastructure engineering and management, and for sharing best practices in solving everyday challenges and problems,” said Brown. “Attendees can transfer this valuable learning experience directly back to their day-to-day projects, opening new and innovative avenues for improving the world’s wet infrastructure.”Additional InformationFor more information on this year’s conference, to submit a conference abstract or to request sponsorship details, please visit http://www.watermodeling.com/. Delegate registration is now open, with the cost for the two-day event starting at £150 + VAT for Innovyze customersSee More

Rain off modeling

I am trying to model rain off structure like parallel spillway before WWTP (actually, it goes to sewer network but it's the same). I am using weir (is it correct - Sideflow option??? ), and would like to add dimension of straight weir and of whole structure, such as length of weir, it's height, area of structure before weir to determine volume of water before WWTP entrance. Also, would like to model space (like retention space) after weir where water (part that goes over weir) stands before entering pipe that leads to river or something else, so I can control flow that goes out of structure to recipient, because I don't want to put huge flow to small channel immediately. Or it should be made with weir - oriffice combination? Oriffice after weir, for rain off water? Or should I use Storage unit for inflow and then weir for rain off water? In that situation I cannot enter Storage - Weir structure because it's actually the same structure, but length of weir is actually length of Storage unit. I can calculate area of Storage unit and enter it, with length of weir being one part of Storage area and calculating other one. Would that be OK?Area between WWTP and weir and area after weir before channel concerns me - is SWMM capable of modeling that kind of structure?Flow until some level would go to WWTP and bigger, when rain occurs; would go over spillway directly through channel to recipient. Of course, some height-flow relation would be calculated and entered. I know I complicated it a bit :) I made a small scheme of a structure, I have attached it to be more clear. Also, I made a small scheme how would I try to model it in SWMM, I think that should be OK.Thanks!See More
